Rural nonprofit organizations face special challenges in raising ongoing operating support and achieving longer-term development goals such as capital projects. This course will help representatives of grassroots nonprofits with the advance planning that is key to fundraising success. It will offer practical tools for annual fundraising to support operations and programs. We will also provide techniques and tips in order to prepare for a capital campaign. And we will discuss how other development activities fit in, including special events and planned giving. This course will utilize case studies from successful area nonprofits. Volunteer board members are especially encouraged to attend this session, along with nonprofit staff.  1-hour networking lunch

Session Leader:

Instructors: Wilson Sims & Don Steele, principals of Sims & Steele Consulting in Asheville, are fundraising advisors and strategic planning and organizational development specialists. Over the last 10 years, they have guided numerous organizations in the development of their strategic plan, and advised board and staff members on issues as wide ranging as institutional vision and planning, fundraising, marketing, and administrative hires.
