This workshop will help nonprofit leaders develop the communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills necessary to work effectively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds – inside and outside their organizations. This course builds awareness of key cultural differences, focuses on key cross-cultural communication skills, and enhances skills in building relationships across cultures.  There will be a special focus on the impact, challenges and opportunities related to the growing Latino communities in western North Carolina. This course is appropriate for nonprofit staff and volunteer leaders who want to better understand the changing. intercultural nature and needs of communities and organizations.

At the end of the seminar you will be able to:

• Identify five qualities required to successfully manage the   multicultural organization

• Recognize hidden American cultural assumptions and cultural patterns

• Avoid and resolve communication breakdowns

• Recognize the importance of nonverbal communication skills

• Understand the perspective and needs of the Latino population and   culture in western North Carolina

Session Leader: Michael Caudill is managing partner of InterCultural Advantage. He has a Master's degree in Intercultural Communication and has held positions in public affairs and disaster response with the American Red Cross and the Pan American Health Organization.
