How will the map work?

We plan to launch the map in the first half of 2011, after it is "populated" with nonprofits across our region.

The nonprofit sector has grown and changed in recent decades, and we want to get a clear picture of who's working on what issues across the mountains.  To help, we are building an interactive map of our 18-county region, (insert internal link to graphic of 18-county area) which will show nonprofit organizations:

  • Color-coded by category (Arts and Culture, Economic and Community Building, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Resources)
  • By location (county where nonprofit office is located)
  • By area served (one or more counties)

When you click on the organization, you will see individual organization information including phone, email, office address and website (depth of information depends on what the organizations submits).

In addition to sorting by category and/or service area, you will be able to print a list of the nonprofits included in your search parameters.

Benefits of the Map

Community leaders, donors, and nonprofit representatives need reliable information about the local nonprofit sector, who it includes, and how it works.

What the map will mean:

  • We will get a view of the region by sector, i.e. number of arts organizations and where they are located
  • Organizations will see who is doing similar work around WNC
  • You will easily be able to see what nonprofits are located in and/or serving your county

A. We will receive regularly scheduled updates of additions to the N.C. Carelink database, which we will periodically upload to the map.
