Fundamentals: Fund Development

Fund Development is one of six day-long Fundamentals courses offered annually, teaching practical knowledge and skills in core competencies that every nonprofit leader needs to know.

Are you relatively new to fundraising?  Do you want to strengthen your organization’s fund development function?  This course will provide important information about key areas to address in your organization’s fundraising. 

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, you will learn about:
  • Fundraising trends and approaches—the big picture for our fund development work;
  • Methods for successful fundraising—key strategies and tactics for effective fundraising;
  • Fundraising Plan—creating a useful plan to guide your fundraising efforts;
  • Engaging your volunteers—recommendations for board and other volunteer involvement in your organization’s fundraising;
  • Monitoring Fundraising Effectiveness—what to measure to understand donor behavior and fundraising results; and
  • Standards for excellence for nonprofits related to fundraising.

 This interactive course will guide participants through a process of developing immediate actions to implement back at the office as well as strategic ideas and fundraising processes to discuss with your Board, committees, or other staff members.  You will learn strategies and specific steps for increasing your fundraising success.

Follow-up Support
After completion of the course, attendees can access up to three hours of no cost one-on-one assistance from the instructor in order to help apply what's been learned to the needs of their organizations.  (Note: You must represent a WNC nonprofit in order to qualify for this support.)

Who should take Fundamentals: Fund Development?

This workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate-level development professionals, as well as interested board members or other staff.  It is appropriate for organizations of any size that want to improve their fundraising process.

Instructor:
Angela Kemper, MA, CFRE, is a successful fundraiser, trainer, and consultant with expertise in strategic communication that has generated results in non-profit and corporate organizations for more than 19 years.  In 1999, she co-founded HunterKemper Consulting, which provides fundraising and organization development counsel.
